Brit award nominations are announced

This year’s nominations have been announced with a few obvious choices (Katy Perry and Rihanna) but where’s Lady Gaga’s name?

The US megastar hasn’t been listed in either of the two international categories instead Kings of Leon are up for the best international album, although cannot for the life of me see why; the album was definitely the worst of 2010!

As far as the UK goes Mumford and Sons are up for three awards including best breakthrough act but they face stiff competition from the likes of Mecury Prize winners The XX and the seemingly unstoppable Tinie Tempah.

Mercury Music Prize nominations…

July 21, 2010 at 6:14 pm (Music News) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This year’s nominations for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize have been announced.

The twelve albums in the ‘2010 Album of the Year’ category are as follows:

Biffy Clyro – ‘Only Revolutions’
Villagers – ‘Becoming A Jackal’
Corinne Bailey Rae –  ‘The Sea’
Mumford & Sons – ‘Sigh No More’
Paul Weller – ‘Wake Up The Nation’
Wild Beasts – ‘Two Dancers’
Kit Downes Trio – ‘Golden’
Laura Marling – ‘I Speak Because I Can’
Dizzee Rascal – ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’
Foals – ‘Total Life Forever’
I Am Kloot – ‘Sky At Night’
The xx – ‘xx’

The winner will be announced at the award show that is taking place on Tuesday 7 September, for me it’s a tough call between The xx and Mumford and Sons. Both have produced albums this year which are truely outstanding and I am glad they have received recognition they deserve for them.
