Just Like Thieves

February 20, 2011 at 6:16 pm (Music News) (, , , , , )

Thought I’d introduce you to another band that I have just discovered.

Just Like Thieves are from Hollywood with their Twitter page describing them as ‘Sexy Rock and Roll. Combining driving guitar riffs and catchy hooks that leave you wanting more.”

To hear what they sound like here is the link to their soundcloud page:

Just Like Thieves – Lovers, Liars, & Thieves Ep

For me they sound like a mix of Papa Roach with insane guitar solos that Slash would be proud of.

Definitely one to check out if you like your rock music with a bit of a kick.

Rival Sons

February 12, 2011 at 10:44 pm (Music News, Music Videos) (, , , , , , , , , )

Never thought i’d say it but for once I am thankful for Spotify’s adverts.

When listening of a bit of dubstep this evening I was introduced to a new classic rock band during the regular and highly annoying advert break and within 5 seconds I knew I had to look up this band.

Named Rival Sons, they are a  blues rock band from California who according to Classic Rock Magazine are ‘the’ band to watch this year.

Described by the website as sounding like “Black Crowes crossed with Aerosmith, and more than a hint of Zeppelin.” the band’s debut album ‘Before The Fire’ is out now on iTunes.

The band are also part of HMV’s Next Big Thing and played Camden’s Barfly tonight; making their debut in the UK.

Axl Rose vs Slash (again)

February 8, 2011 at 7:36 pm (Music News) (, , , )

Since a flippant comment from Slash emerged online last week about him considering a reunion with Axl Rose, if he apologised, speculation has been going crazy that Guns N’ Roses are getting back together.

The amount of times Slash has been asked that question ‘So would you ever get join Axl again in Guns N’ Roses?’ is ridiculous and is beginning to wear thin; seen as though his answer has always been no. So the one time he says ‘if Axl apologies then maybe’, the music websites start jumping on the bandwagon and start announcing that a reunion is on the cards.

Now Axl has responded in his usual big-headed way: “Contrary to anyone’s claims there are no concrete plans nor were there ever for a tour, a relaunch or sponsors (n’ certainly not to replace anyone in the band) beyond a collection of random ideas thrown out by various individuals w/out any real foundation or negotiations in place other than our prior involvements (which wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to put together).”

If you actually read the story then you soon release this is music journalists clutching at straws and writing a story with no real substance behind it. Either that or a journalist knowing it wouldn’t be long before Axl opened his mouth and the feud between the singer and Slash would continue once again.

When asked would he unite if the singer phoned and apologised Slash actually said: “All things considered, that would be a call I would be surprised to get. If that really happened, I would have to clean out my junk drawer, too, but I don’t see it happening.

“But if it did happen, I would do whatever it takes to at least have a conversation about it.”

Where in Slash’s response was the confirmation that Guns N’ Roses would come back with the original line-up?

It’s speculation gone mad!

Jared Leto to release book

February 3, 2011 at 5:46 pm (Music News) (, , , , )

The 30 Seconds To Mars frontman is to release a book of photos on his recent trip to Haiti to help raise funds for the continuing relief effort after the 2010 earthquake. Set to be released in March the trip was also filmed but as of yet there is no indication when this is to be shown.

The story on says: “A lot of people are in need. The infrastructure is a disaster and the situation is dire, but the Haitian people are unstoppable. They have enormous challenges in front of them that sometimes must seem beyond repair, but their spirit is alive and well and they are looking toward a promising tomorrow. It’s an inspiration to witness.”

The website states:  “Jared – who, as a child, spent a year in Haiti while his mother Constance helped run two medical clinics – decided to revisit the island last month to see how international charities are rebuilding the country one year on.”

The full interview can be read in this week’s Kerrang! magazine on sale now.

The end of the White Stripes

February 3, 2011 at 5:21 pm (Music News) (, , , , , , )

News broke yesterday (2nd Feb.) that White Stripes had called it a day after thirteen years together and six studio albums.

The statement came yesterday evening after appearing on the band’s official website, it stated:

“The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.

“It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.”

It went on to say that the White Stripes no longer belong to Jack and Meg but “belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to.”

They thanked their fans and said that their record company, Third Man Records, will continue to release unreleased material but they will not be performing or promoting these recordings.

Click here to read the full version of the statement.

It was inevitable that this was going to happen sooner or later as they hadn’t performed together since 2009 and hadn’t released a studio album since Icky Thump in 2007; so it shouldn’t have come at that much of a surprise.

The fact that Jack has been focusing on other projects and been in Raconteurs and Dead Whether for so long also should have meant that people weren’t really to expect any new material from White Stripes. However it still doesn’t really soften the blow of their split. The band were genius in my opinion and always produced music that was superior to anyone else, their simple guitar and drum combination was simple yet effective on so many levels.

They will undoubtedly be missed in the music world.
