Gorillaz replace U2

May 27, 2010 at 1:52 pm (Music News) (, , , , )

Following the recent news that U2 have pulled out of their headlining slot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival due to Bono injuring his back, it has been confirmed that Gorillaz are to replace them.

Speaking on NME‘s website Damon Albarn said: “It’s a terrible thing for U2. “Glastonbury is magical. Gorillaz will come to life on that stage, but we wish Bono all the best.”

Speaking on glastonburyfestivals.co.uk organiser Michael Eavis is said to be excited about the latest edition he said: “This is going to be Gorillaz’ only UK festival appearance, and it’ll be a massive audio-visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night.”

Not a bad replacement but they are certainly no U2. People who weren’t keen on the idea of U2 in the first place are probably thrilled they have had to pull out but if i were going i would be extremely disappointed as U2 are exceptional live.

U2 pull out of Glasto…

May 25, 2010 at 12:37 pm (Music News) (, , )

U2 have been forced to cancel their headlining slot at the Glastonbury festival this year due to Bono experiencing back problems.

There had been speculation surrounding whether he would be fit to perform since it was first heard that Bono had damaged his back last week and had to have surgery.

Bono is said to be ‘heart-broken’ over the decision and organisers of the summer festival have apologised for the cancellation.

The full story can be read here.

Now it’s a waiting game to see who is going to take their place or whether they’re just going to move people up the bill into the headlining slot?
