Leaked MGMT album forced to become available early

March 22, 2010 at 6:10 pm (Music News) (, , )

‘Congratulations’ was originally planned to be made available online on April 12 as a free download  but following a leak  the band have had to push the date forward.

The follow up to 2008’s ‘Oracular Spectacular’ can be downloaded here:

On their site they said: “…the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn’t make sense to anyone but us.”

The decision is great for those students who can’t afford to buy the latest albums but how is making albums available online, for free, going to help cd sales. Record stores are already struggling but with the increase of bands now opting to take the digital route how long is it before we see the likes of HMV closing down?

This week’s music news (15th – 21st)

March 21, 2010 at 9:57 pm (Music News) (, , , , , )

This week has all been about the unstoppable Lady Gaga. Not only has she grabbed the number one single for ‘Telephone’ but also the number one album spot with ‘The Fame’ which has been in the charts now for 62 weeks! Just a shame her ex-boyfriend/producer is sueing her for a reported $35million. He claims he is owed shares of 20% after helping her re-invent her sound and her image. More can be read here.

Jack White has also been grabbing attention from the music world by releasing ‘Under Great Northern Lights’ , a DVD and CD combo of The White Stripes live on their 2007 Canadian tour, recording a top secret song with Jay-Z and defending fellow band member Meg’s drumming skills.

Elsewhere a rare recording of a Led Zeppelin gig at Ipswich, in 1971, has been found at a car boot sale. The cd is a recording of the whole concert and features songs such as ‘Immigrant Song, ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven’. It is unknown how many of these cd’s were made as no official copy was ever released, only parts of it patched together. I think the man who brought this rarity for £2 is laughing his way to the bank.

New Dead Weather album

March 20, 2010 at 4:43 pm (Music News, Music Videos)

The follow up to ‘Horehound’ will be released on May 7th and is entitled ‘Sea Of Cowards’.

The band fronted by Jack White and The Kills singer Alison Mosshart will also release ‘Die By The Drop’ the first single from the album very soon.

Just hope this means another tour as i am desperate to see this band and especially Jack White. Anything this man does is genius be it The White Stripes or The Raconteurs, he can make it work and produce a sound that is different each time.

Isa and the Filthy Tongues – Dark Passenger

March 15, 2010 at 2:43 pm (Reviews) (, )

Isa and the Filthy Tongues reviewed by me on, the review can be viewed here:

Label – Neon Tetra.

Released 22nd March
Listening to Isa and the Filthy Tongues is like taking a trip down memory lane, to a time when bands created a sound that was pure and void of the electronics that we have now become accustomed to. They take the simple combination of a woman and a man singin,g add it to memorable guitar riffs, give it a bit of country spice and the outcome is an album that is bordering on brilliance.

Opening track ‘Jim’s Killer’ is an echoing and gentle song which builds in tension and creates an appreciation for the vintage sound of melodic guitars and husky vocals gelling together.

The album exudes depth, be it in the deep meanings behind the lyrics or the eerie undertones in each song; it is an intensity that captivates your attention.

Isa (Stacey Chavis) with her rock chick voice injects bitterness into a gothic and haunting collection of songs that leave you feeling dirty. The soft gruffly quality to her voice creates a dominance and a presence that demands concentration.

‘New Town Killers‘ is a stand out track with upbeat pounding drums and simple guitars that breathes happy vibes into an album that has a reflective and moody label attached to it. It is an air of optimism and a pleasant change that shows a varied dimension to this band.

Isa and the Filthy Tongues are a breath of fresh air, a new mellow sound that takes you to the dark places that metal might usually invite you to.
