This weeks music news round up (15th – 21st)

February 21, 2010 at 8:41 pm (Music News)

The week kicked off with The Brits, love them or hate them the subject cannot be avoided.

Not only did they involve an outift from Lady GaGa that puts the Spice Girls to shame they resulted in an ongoing fued between this year’s host Peter Kay and ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. A war of words fued that resembles that of two children fighting over the last rolo.

Courtney Love, a woman who has gone down the self-destruct path so many times that she can now walk down it blindfolded, returned to the stage with her band ‘Hole’ after 11 years of being away. Just wish this woman would give up now, she doesn’t have a great voice she has no real persona and her stage presence is overshadowed by the ‘junkie’ tag.  Apart from that one song ‘Celebrity Skin’ that was vaguely popular who really knows any ‘Hole’ songs anyway?

The iconic Abbey Road Studio was announced to be in danger this week after EMI reportedly put the studio up for sale. However Andrew Lloyd Webber is rumoured to be interested in saving the place that has helped put so many artists on the music map, saying “it is vital for the future of the music industry in the UK that the studios are saved”.

The Help for Haiti charity single ‘Everybody Hurts’ topped the UK single charts grabbing the number one spot with the Brits collaboration ‘You Got The Dirtee Love’ by Dizzee Rascal and Florence and the Machine reaching number two.

New albums and singles released this week:

Marina and the Diamonds – The Family Jewels (Album)

Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed (Single)

Owl City – Maybe I’m Dreaming (Single)
